About

Hello, I’m Basjes, a Dutch IT engineer and product owner with diverse interests spanning technology, Lego building, craft beverages, and outdoor cooking.

Originally from the East of the Netherlands, I’ve maintained a lifelong passion for problem-solving through both technology and creative construction. After a varied career journey—from taxi company IT administrator to software consultant to national infrastructure manager—I now work at Equinix as a product owner, where I’ve grown into a team lead role. Throughout it all, I’ve stayed committed to learning, growing, and balancing family, purpose, and leadership.

Background

My path hasn’t been straightforward, but it’s taught me resilience and the value of self-reliance. I started my IT career in 2003 after helping a former employer with an emergency—they hired me on the spot. Since then, I’ve worked across consulting, infrastructure management, and product ownership, always with a focus on practical problem-solving and automation.

Today, I live with my partner Tanja and our two children, Ilse and Mats. When I’m not working, you’ll find me experimenting with barbecue in the backyard, building with Lego alongside my equally enthusiastic family, or exploring craft beer and whisky.

What I Care About

I’m using my IT and cloud skills to work on things that matter:

  • Clean energy - Automating home energy flows to reduce grid strain and make solar more sustainable
  • Digital privacy - Migrating to self-hosted, privacy-friendly tools and sharing why with others
  • Fair housing - Building practical means to help my children access affordable housing in the future

These aren’t just abstract goals—they’re personal missions driven by real problems I see in the world around me.
